Law
school migrates to new .edu Web domain
CHARLESTON, S.C., June 13, 2008 -- The Charleston School of
Law today is moving its online presence to a Web site with a
different ending -- the .edu domain that signifies its status
as an accredited educational institution.
The school's Web site now is: www.charlestonlaw.edu

you have any of the school's Web pages bookmarked, we

"We started working through the bureaucratic process of
getting the kind of Web domain associated with full-service
law schools when we were accredited in December 2006,"
Dean Andy Abrams said today. "Former Dean Richard Gershon
deserves a lot of the credit for dealing with the paperwork
and snarls in shifting to the new .edu domain.
"This new Web domain more accurately reflects our professional
education status and is, in many ways, more evidence that we
have arrived," Abrams said. He added that the school could
have started using the .edu domain earlier this year, but chose
to wait until after the Class of 2008 graduated in May.
"As you can imagine, there are a lot of things that have
to happen when you shift to a new Web site address to make for
a seamless transition," Abrams said. "Faculty, staff
and students get new email addresses; new stationery and business
cards have to be ordered; brochures and publications need to
be altered."
Abrams said the Web site that has been used by the school since
its founding four years ago - www.charlestonlaw.org - will continue
to work for awhile, but suggested that people start using the
new Web site - and adjust their email addresses to end with
.edu, instead of .org.
